Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What do I need to do if I have health coverage from my own job or the job of a family member?

If you already have coverage from your own job or the job of a family member that you are satisfied with, there is nothing you need to do differently. The coverage offered by most employers meets the federal government's definition of health insurance, so as long as you stay covered, you will not have to pay the penalty for going without insurance.

If the cost of the employer's insurance is high, you may be able to get premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions to help you pay for a private insurance plan. You can see if you are eligible for financial assistance by filling out the DC Health Link application.
