Vision Coverage

In addition to health and dental options, DC Health Link is also pleased to provide access to individual vision insurance through our partnership with VSP® Vision Care. Currently available to DC residents, VSP Individual Vision Plans include coverage for services such as eye exams, glasses, and lens enhancements like progressives.

Note: Consumers who choose to purchase a vision plan do so directly through VSP's online enrollment system and not through DC Health Link.

Consumers can choose between two plan options:

VSP Standard $120 Plan

  • An Exam every 12 months
  • Lenses every 12 months
  • Frames every 12 months
  • $15 copay for exams; $25 copay for lenses/frames
  • $120 Retail Frame Allowance (RFA) - the amount per year that may be used to purchase frames; OR
  • $120 Elective Contact Lens Allowance (ECL) - the amount per year that may be used to purchase contact lenses. Contacts may be chosen instead of glasses

Note that enrollment in a vision insurance plan does not constitute enrollment into a plan that offers minimum essential health coverage. Having minimum essential health coverage is necessary to meet DC’s individual responsibility requirement – a law that requires DC residents to have qualifying health coverage, get an exemption, or pay a penalty on their DC taxes. Lower monthly premiums and lower out-of-pocket costs cannot be used for vision insurance plans or products.
