Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What are "full-time equivalent (FTE)" employees?
Employers are eligible to shop in DC Health Link based on the number of "full-time equivalent (FTE)" employees they had in the prior calendar year. The employer must also have at least 1 employee on the first day of the plan year. To calculate the number of FTE employees, an employer must:
- Count all employees who worked on average 30 hours per week or more; then
- Add in all part-time employees as a fraction of the hours worked by a full-time employee.
Full-Time Employees: 20
Part-Time Employees: 4 x .50 = 2
Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Employees: 20 + 2 = 22
In this example, SmallCo has 22 FTE employees.
