DC Health Link African American Community Outreach Week of Action- “Boosting Enrollment among African American Men”
Boyz 2 Men Barber Shop Day
-
World Class Cuts Barber Shop
403 K Street, NW
Barber shops in African American communities are more than a place to get a haircut and a shave. It’s a gathering sanctum where men meet to share stories about life events, get the latest information about what's happening in the community and in recent years a setting where health promotion and study take place. In many neighborhoods barbershops are the center of activities when young boys learn a little something about manhood. During African American Week of Action, January 18 – 24, 2015, DC Health Link in conjunction with various community organizations will place emphasis on the importance of African Americans, especially men, enrolling in quality, affordable health insurance through DC Health Link. With only 4 weeks left to the February 15th deadline to sign up for 2015 coverage, DC Health Link will accelerate its outreach efforts to this population. Boys 2 Men Barber Shop Day is an enrollment event where DC Health Link representatives will setup shop to educate the African Americans men about the benefits of enrolling in health insurance coverage through DC Health link, share information about financial resources to help pay plan premiums and provide expert enrollment support. In-person assisters and licensed health insurance brokers who can help with the enrollment process and plan selections will be available to answer questions.
